wedding breakfast

i decided this part of the day deserved its own entry.

i've mentioned before that i'd asked russell james, the uk's foremost raw chef, to make my lunch on wedding day, as the prospect of having the "oh my god, what we can give the veggies" option on the caterer's menu just wasn't doing it for me. it did cross my mind to make my own food but then, cool how these things happen, i was on a weekend retreat with some great women and karen 'awesome' knowler and they all said "why the hell should you have second best on your wedding day!" and my mind was made up.

i dropped russell a cheeky message on twitter and he said yes, he'd be honoured to create my wedding breakfast. fabulous! we organised ourselves and it came to be. the power of dreams :)

sitting down to lunchso he delivered a creamy, smooth as silk, chilled soup to start. main course was a trio of tarts, each with a different filling. my favourite had a zingy basil and tomato filling, there was also a rich, nutty one, and, um, perhaps mushroom, though it's all a little hazy now. and, i have to confess, i didn't finish them all, i was saving space for dessert which was an outrageously rich, decadent raw chocolate torte with a lush berry coulis. fantastic!

and even after all that food i had the energy afterwards to get up and play with the kids, and chat with family and friends, while everyone else started to flag... the joy of raw foods!

so thank you, russell, for a wonderful, healthy and tasty lunch. and i will get those tart tins back to you, i promise!
